Mobama Lunches

I'm very fond of political blogging, so I frequently miss out on the xanga action. Also, I typically read what is in front of my face (once again, I have forgotten how I get to that top blog page - it's always hit or miss - so I miss a lot.) Here is something I wrote at another site: (yes, I have a dark side...)

I’ve oftentimes wondered why my son refuses to eat the school lunches. I’ve also wondered why the hello they were throwin so much food away. (I have a friend who is a “lunch lady” and told me about this.) Then I came across this article: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/OTUS/hungry-kids-grumble-healthy-school-lunches/story?id=17324285 Yep. It’s the Democratic passed 2010 Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, championed by Michelle Obama (a model weight if I may say.) This Act is trying to be repealed by Republicans who are trying to pass the No Kids Hungry Act. Here’s why:

"We hear them complaining around 1:30 or 2:00 that they are already hungry," said Linda O'Connor, a high school English teacher at Wallace County High School in Sharon Springs, Kansas. "It's all the students, literally all the students... you can set your watch to it."

O'Connor teamed up with her hungry students and fellow teacher Brenda Kirkham to create a ballad to the growling stomachs that are now pestering her classroom. The YouTube song and dance video "We Are Hungry," set to the tune of Fun's "We Are Young," now has more than 108,000 hits.

Their video is awfully funny and very good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IB7NDUSBOo

No more sloppy-joes for you, kiddies!

Just outta curiosity; do y'all blog on other sites?

Nope.  I do pretty much all my blogging here on Xanga.

When you talk about how to get to the top blog page, you mean navigating there or getting a blog there?  To navigate there, just go to xanga.com, it opens up on top blogs.  To get a blog on there, just hope enough folks read and comment on it.  Some sort of goofy formula for it, but haven't figured it out yet.

At some point we are either going to have to realize, we must take better care of ourselves and not rely on the government to provide for us or become enslaved to the government and lose every last freedom. I am begining to think that men surrender their freedoms piece by piece voluntarily by their own apathy rather than it forcefully be taken from them. Eventually those who rule over those who serve gain so much power and reliance on the enslaved, there is no hope of returning the freedoms once taken for granted

@grim_truth - Thanks. Yes, I meant getting there for I have no clue as to if I've ever been on this page. My computer takes me to this sign-in page. I have noticed that one link will take me there. Now I just need to remember xanga.com (duh!) Someone actually told me that but I couldn't remember.......I'm blond. I enjoy reading the top blogs. I enjoy reading you.....coming to stalk you now (I do know how to do that.....I just have to press your name.)

Or, you know, people could feed their own children.  That's a new, never-before-considered option I thought up just now.

@Aloysius_son - Well said. I popped over to agnophilo's site and popped out. Some people cannot see the forest for the trees, and I become extremely frustrated by this. If you get me started on the media, I could go on a tirade. Let me just sum it up:

Obama: You didn't build that.

Media: He was talking about govt. programs! And you didn't build bridges, roads, infrastructure, &c.

Romney: 47% of folks don't pay taxes.

Media: He's EVIL! He doesn't care for the poor! He's rich! He won't show us his tax returns!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Romney is factually correct. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57515033-503544/fact-checking-romneys-47-percent-comment/

But you know who the hello isn't? The one who said we didn't build that! Guess what? 47% of us didn't cause they were being fed by the others who did! Ooomph. I've lost my temper, J. I need kisses....

@blonde_apocalypse - Sacre bleu! Who would ever think of something along those lines?! The logic is confounding! (epecially to a 47%er)

What would we ever do without the government to hold our hand and tell us what is best for us and our kids?

Things have changed a lot in the past decade. I feel like kids are just... bigger now. Maturing at a younger age and growing taller and well, heavier than ever before.  Of course the stimpy school lunches that we recieved don't hold up to the modern generations hunger level. That or we didn't complain. Maybe it's that my school didn't have walls so you couldn't actually hear bellies grumbling.

@mtngirlsouth - Reckon people don't realise the extent of the breach of trust the Executive Branch has taken.

@Thatslifekid - I do believe we are evolving. Kids seem to be taller, bigger, stronger.....and hungrier. Perhaps we could take the ethanol outta the gas and feed the corn to these kids instead. That damn ethanol has caused us to fix two motorcycles and a sailboat. Now, I've lost my temper again thinking on this BS. Where is the logic in ethanol?

Clearly you are un-American. The STORY YOU LINKED also says junk food is a national security issue.

"Removing the junk food from our schools should be part of comprehensive action that involves parents, schools and communities in helping children make healthy food choices," retired U.S. Coast Guard Admiral James Loy said in a statement. "The bottom line is that the armed services must have a sufficient pool of fit young adults to draw from in order to field enough recruits with the excellent qualifications needed to staff a 21st century military."

I know of one school where parents have come in with snacks for the kids in sports programs because after the first couple of weeks kids were complaining about being hungry and not being able to give a full effort in practice and others were loading up on the junk food they were trying to prevent kids from eating.

@grim_truth - I taught in a school that banned peanut butter because a family with five kids were so allergic to peanut butter that even smelling it could cause them to die. I was sort of glad they banned it because I didn't want to have to stab any kid in the heart with an epipen like a teacher had to do once when they found out the youngest was allergic to peanuts. He was only in a coma for three days because he only had a whiff of peanut butter.

@godfatherofgreenbay - Let's say there was a child that has to live in a bubble because of so many allergies.  Should we remove all possible items that he could be allergic to and send him to school, so he can live out of his bubble?  Of course, that would mean kids can only eat tofu and soy milk.  Nothing else.

Extreme?  Yes.  Any different?  No.

When people want special treatment, we cannot keep accomodating them especially if they're in the super-minority, and the treatment isn't equal rights.  If a person is so allergic to pet dander, that it could kill them, would you be ok with all households in a 5 block radius being forced to get rid of their pets?  Again, it's the same principle.  Forcing others to accomodate one or two individuals, even in life or death situations, isn't equal rights.  The children with the allergies can eat whatever they choose.  (Yes, they even have the choice to consume the allergen as well if they were so compelled.)  But the rest of the kids?  Nope.  No freedom to eat what they choose.

Many families simply cannot buy school lunches, they just can't afford it.  They also shouldn't be forced to buy them either, even at reduced or free rates.  We couldn't.  Most days, it was PB&J sandwiches.  And let's face it, PB&J sammiches are fairly nutritious, especially when made with homemade jelly and peanut butter.

Folks that can't or don't want to spend, cannot continue to demand that everyone else pay.  Eventually, we will run out of everyone else.

Everyone has the choice.  Those with the allergies SHOULD NOT and CANNOT continue to force their will upon others.  Why should the majority lose freedom to accomodate someone else?

This doesn't really seem any different than what I grew up with, so I'm a little confused. Actually, I'm a lot confused.

Their calorie limits seem off, but I'm neither a doctor nor a nutritionist, so I don't know.

If kids are just gonna throw food away, there's no sense in even giving it to them. And if kids are just grabbing the food and then throwing it away, I'm not at all sympathetic to that.

Or just pack your damn lunch.

What definitely did piss me off is when the free/reduced lunch kids stopped being allowed to only get a free milk - they were required to take an entire tray of food in order to get that milk... so they'd take the tray, toss the food, and drink their milk with whatever it was they were eating.

I ate sloppy joes for lunch today. Yum.

When I was a kid, I mostly ate bagged lunches. A healthy sandwich, some fruit, some juice, and a treat. Once in a while my mother would give me money to get a cafeteria lunch, so it would be nice to eat a warm meal.

Perhaps parents should be more responsible for their children's diets and pack their lunches; I know I will when I have children. But, today is the age of "let the government do EVERYTHING for me so that I no longer have responsibility" so that's why we have regulations that count more than the grains of sand on earth.

Facebook and twitter. I stopped blogging on other blog sites even though I was starting to get good traffic. I think my desire to blog is waning.

As to school lunches. these people are out of their minds no one eats like they want our kids to eat. Truth is it is rather under-nourishing and very bland. They act like these kids are on a weight lose diet. for the kids who never go outside not a bad idea. but there are still a lot of healthy and active boys out there and athletic girl. That is another thing boys eat twice what girls eat. But these morons cant accept that

A long lecture but skip it if you want to remain ignorant.

It has been found that mental retardation can begin when young children are not fed proper diet. Surprisingly the mental retardation is a bit non reversible.

The government has found an almost foolproof way to feed children by teaming up with the agriculture lobby and so the food fed to children is sort of helped by the agricultural industry.

Some nutritionists had a part in planning some of the "free lunch" program. For a long time the food lobbyist pushed the concept that tomato sauce or ketchup fills the vegetable slot for a balanced diet. Finally some more fruits and vegetables are finally getting into the free lunch diet.......

Part of the push to introduce more fruits and vegetables is due to too many overweight children. The fruits and vegetables offer more fiber, more vitamins and are slower to be digested. Hence if the foods offered are eaten instead of being thrown away, children will be less tempted by snack foods and they will tend to be less overweight.

The government tries hard to prevent moochers from getting a free lunch. Parents who tag along with their children cannot get some of the free lunch. The government is not dictating food choices but is providing a healthy menu for impressionable young children. A habit of eating healthy is an option and not government forcing food choices contrary to what unhappy folks are stating.

Romney is an unmitigated douchebag, shallow beyond belief. Not because I say so, because HE says so!

@trunthepaige -  A retard like you can't call anyone else morons. Come on now. But, I guess we let retards be retards. So, just keep saying whatever pops into that pea-sized brain of yours. There, there, it's gonna be ok.
